It was a pleasure to visit St Mary’s Church in Fretherne last week and to meet with Churchwarden, Jane Cleaver and architect, David Newton.
St Mary’s is a beautiful church built in the 1840s and is estimated to have been used for worship for over 700 years.
The church which is Grade II listed and features on the Heritage at Risk register, needs repair work undertaken on its spire and the church team have been working hard to raise funds to contribute towards this.
The team at St Mary’s are now looking to apply to the Government’s Community Ownership Fund in an effort to help to raise the full amount needed to repair the spire. I will be supporting the church team in their application and hope to see this wonderful church remain functional for our communities for many more years to come.
