Domestic abuse is often reported much later than other crimes, for a huge range of reasons. The current time limit for bringing prosecutions for common assault or battery, in domestic abuse cases is just 6 months from the date of the offence. The Government is rightly changing the law so that the time limit for prosecutions runs from the date the offence is reported to the police.
Victims of domestic abuse will now be given more time to report abuse.
This change in law is hugely important and will allow many victims of domestic abuse to seek the justice they rightly deserve 🙏🏼
